Over the last year more and more people are approaching us to help them redefine the way Google characterizes their reputation. Maybe they are involved in a lawsuit, or maybe someone has flamed them, either way they want to get those postings or pages out of Google. Well that’s not quite that easy; otherwise everybody would look like a Saint. So how do we help, we start with by interviewing the client, finding out about them and their work history. Then we start building them a new online reputation. Our goal is to increase their positives and push down their negatives. We use a number of tools and sites but basically it’s all about SEO.
Reputation Management applies to:
- Products
- Companies
- And Individuals
Don’t be naive, if your reputation is important to you in the real world, you better start protecting and building your reputation online. It only takes one post from someone standing on a soap box to ruin your chance at that next sale, or promotion.
Things you might considering doing to build out your reputation:
- Personal Blogs
- Corporate websites
- Press Releases
- LinkIn and other social networking or career websites
In fact there are literally hundreds of ways to tackle your online reputation and there is no one size fits all strategy. Most people I know are proud to be off the "Internet radar", but I guarantee you don't want to be that person calling us screaming for help because of…. on Google. So be proactive, help yourself, or if you don't have time to do it yourself hire someone to do it for you.
I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on how you would help protect your online reputation or how you would help someone else build their online reputation – please comment.
