I need to find new sources for the roundup. This week was brutal, and even with a head start of an hour I am struggling to find a sufficient number of quality articles to fill this up. What’s going on people? Has the world crushed the blogosphere?
Maybe there’s just so much happening in the world right now that people don’t feel the need to add to the noise.
Anyhow, this week we have problems with permission, Facebook and “frog in the pot” privacy and using the GA API.
Internet Marketing and SEO
- I’m obviously not the only one covering problems with permission. Josh Bernoff has been having quite a bit of trouble from companies including Seagate, GlassPoint and 5W.
- Logic and Emotion, in doing a simple “this is how to turn off instant personalization in Facebook” has made a pretty heady but apt claim: that facebook is using a “boiling a frog” approach to getting people to let go of their personal privacy. Interesting.
Web Analytics
- The GA blog got it right last week with a guide to masting Unique visitors in the Google API. There’s some excellent examples of segmentation here.
- Seer Interactive has a cool guide on using regular expressions to group keywords in Google Analytics.
User Experience
- Vandelay design Blog has a guide to useful analytics tips and resources for designers and marketers. Sure enough, VKI is at #2, sweet!
- Do you like the Facebook Like button? Well, starting today Facebook is changing its function to be the same as the share button. Kinda lame, if you ask me, since the whole point of it was to provider a smaller, easier interaction for users.
Miscellaneous links of the week:
- A List Apart take a break from designy stuff to talk about one of my favourite rocket-surgery topics: cryptography.
- mashable has a pretty cool how to on implementing a Social Good Campaign on Facebook, including setting up a cause, creating a social media hub, and creating interaction. Good stuff.
